I think this is a great idea for a meme so I stole this idea from my friend [livejournal.com profile] winterstorrm

What is your favourite painting?

I have many, but it always comes back to this one:

The Lady of Shalott by John William Waterhouse

Please post a picture of your favorite art piece, I'd love to see your taste in art...:)

I'm all about the Impressionists I adore Monet,Waterhouse,Degas and I adore Starry Night by Van Gogh. Thomas Kincade is a favorite, I wish I could buy all of his stunning paintings. They make me feel like I'm easily transported to oversees living in some picture perfect English cottage they make me happy *sighs*

It is a beautiful painting. I love the detail, the candles on the boat, her white dress and her hair.

I love the light. It feels so real.

What is your favorite painting?

This painting is in our living room now and without a frame. I had one before the one I have now, but it got destroyed in our last move. Which is sad because I had spent a lot of money on a beautiful frame for it. :(

The detail is exquisite and he painted some of the most lovely women and they weren't as thin as a rail either. They had substance :)

Their is a sad feel to it because in the poem by Tenneyson she is going down the river to her death.

Lying, robed in snowy white
That loosely flew to left and right --
The leaves upon her falling light --
Thro' the noises of the night,
She floated down to Camelot:
And as the boat-head wound along
The willowy hills and fields among,
They heard her singing her last song,
The Lady of Shalott.

I will post it tomorrow. It's by Jan Vermeer.

That's sad, but I'm glad you have that nice painting to look at. The detail is stunning, and you're right, the old masters liked to paint real life people that were beautiful and healthy :)

She has a distraught expression, no wonder. Thanks for sharing the backstory!

*hugs*

My favorite piece of art is Michelangelo's Last Judgement. In what has to be Irony, my sister has seen it and I have not(In person, I mean. She also got thrown out of the Vatican for arguing with them for not letting in some american with green hair). But I like the Pre-raphaelites, I like the surrealists, the impressionists, the post impressionists(Van Gogh really wasn't an impressionist. He doesn't really fall into that category, although some books on impressionism try to include him. I feel he defy's category. ) I am very fond of the Abstract Expressionists, as well as more modern artists like Kara Walker and Frank Stella. I have an extensive collection of art books- which I plan to will to the local art museum when I shuffle off the mortal coil- they ought to shit at some of my title's. I have one book- a gem, actually- on the cover art of lesbian pulp fiction. I have several books on the Pre-Raphaelites, like six books on Michelangelo(including two that my sister brought me back from Rome), you name it. I had to get this oversized bookshelf to hold them all and I paid the movers to move those heavy things when I moved.

Van Gough does defy a category so true. I love Michelangelo's work as well. He was such a facinating man.

Well, I'm not much in art. I'm a history lover, then I love art just by the things the ages said.
But I love DalĂ, because he was a damm genius and catalan! XD
I love Degas and Monet too, just for the beauty and the era and the place ^^

Yes the beauty of Monet,Degas and Kincade draw me in and I fall in love with the scene they painted.

Dali was a genius so creative and different but I just enjoy looking at his work I wouldn't want to put it on my walls.
