Mar. 10th, 2012 12:14 pmI think this is a great idea for a meme so I stole this idea from my friend

What is your favourite painting?
I have many, but it always comes back to this one:
The Lady of Shalott by John William Waterhouse

Please post a picture of your favorite art piece, I'd love to see your taste in art...:)
I'm all about the Impressionists I adore Monet,Waterhouse,Degas and I adore Starry Night by Van Gogh. Thomas Kincade is a favorite, I wish I could buy all of his stunning paintings. They make me feel like I'm easily transported to oversees living in some picture perfect English cottage they make me happy *sighs*

Date: 2012-03-10 07:25 pm (UTC)This painting is in our living room now and without a frame. I had one before the one I have now, but it got destroyed in our last move. Which is sad because I had spent a lot of money on a beautiful frame for it. :(
The detail is exquisite and he painted some of the most lovely women and they weren't as thin as a rail either. They had substance :)
Their is a sad feel to it because in the poem by Tenneyson she is going down the river to her death.
Lying, robed in snowy white
That loosely flew to left and right --
The leaves upon her falling light --
Thro' the noises of the night,
She floated down to Camelot:
And as the boat-head wound along
The willowy hills and fields among,
They heard her singing her last song,
The Lady of Shalott.

She has a distraught expression, no wonder. Thanks for sharing the backstory!
