Before I head off to work I thought I'd post some words of wisdom from one of my favorite authors. Stephen King...

"Show me a man or a woman alone and I'll show you a saint. Give me two and they'll fall in love. Give me three and they'll invent the charming thing we call 'society'. Give me four and they'll build a pyramid. Give me five and they'll make one an outcast. Give me six and they'll reinvent prejudice. Give me seven and in seven years they'll reinvent warfare. Man may have been made in the image of God, but human society was made in the image of His opposite number, and is always trying to get back home."
--Stephen King

People who try hard to do the right thing always seem mad.”
― Stephen King, The Stand

If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot…reading is the creative center of a writer’s life…you cannot hope to sweep someone else away by the force of your writing until it has been done to you."
–Stephen King

I so agree on the last one...someone who has never read, can't write well. It's just not possible. Reading broadens your horizons and your fantasy, two things you need for writing!

Great quote!

I love Stephen as one of the great story tellers of our time, emphasis decidedly on "teller". While it has been years since I read anything he has written, there was a time when his books were my crack.

Some of his books are still brilliant. He was better in his earlier years though.

His books were my drug as well for so long.

I doubt King will ever get the recognition as a writer that he deserves while he's living. Being a genre writer puts him at a disadvantage with critics and writing fantasy and dark horror makes him a target of scorn from those who believe they have the lock on choosing what to call "literature." He comes closer than any other male writer I've ever read to understanding women. Reading Cujo, Dorlores Claiborne, Lisey's Story, and the first short story in his latest collection, Full Dark, No Stars, I'm swept away. I know those women, I understand how they feel, and they move me emotionally and intellectually.
