Ah ha. I seemed to remember hearing that LJ was quite popular in Russia and had been wondering if Russian hacking had something to do with it. It does makes sense as i have been at a loss to figure out why anyone would really be bothered with that sort of thing around here. In western places it seems like it would rather stupid going after this site so virulently.
I just wish lj would have given us an explaination
They already did when the first Ddos attacks happened a couple of weeks/months back. This has been known ever since and it has been one topic many commenters talked about in their recent maintenance post where they talked about new Ddos attacks happening.
I guess they just thought they wouldn't have to explain the reason once more since they did a couple of weeks before already.
Dic you check the LJ status page or the LJ twitter? They talked about a DDos attack right from the beginning.
But I know what you mean, at first I thought it was my internet as well, until I typed in 'LJ down' on twitter and got hundreds of tweets from people who had problems as well.
Thanks for this. It makes it all a bit less annoying to know that there's a good reason for it all. It's much better to put up with these attacks every so often than to give in to oppressive government.
